Inconsistent UK Adult Cover for DH

There's something inconsistent about the UK adult cover of the Deathly Hallows when compared to the covers of the earlier books in the series. Let me go through them one by one:

1) Philosopher's Stone - the stone is there on the cover in all it's glory
2) Chamber of Secrets - and you have the entrance to the chamber right there
3) Prisoner of Azkaban - there's your prison (and I think they should have stuck with this image compared to the one in the OOTP movie which just sticks out of the ocean with no foundation/island to stand on)
4) Goblet of Fire - there's the goblet of fire
5) Order of the Phoenix - and you can see Fawkes right there, flying out of Dumbledore's office
6) Half-Blood Prince - you have the potions book which was doodled on by Severus P. Snape

But when we come to the last book, we have a picture of one of Voldemort's Horcruxes, the locket of Salazar Slytherin. But Book 7 is not entitled "Harry Potter and the Locket of Slytherin". Nor is it entitled "Harry Potter and the 6 Other Horcruxes". It's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". And there lies the inconsistency.

For the past 6 books, all of the adult covers pertained to or had some relation to the title; whereas for the 7th one you have no connection between them at all. It could've made sense if the Elder Wand was on the cover (and rightly so, seeing that it was quite pivotal throughout the series). Or if it was Gaunt's ring (which also made a debut in the last book). Dunno how they would've made the Invisibility Cloak appear though. Hehe.

Anyway, that's just me obsessing about trivial things. Your thoughts?

How did Dumbledore defeat Grindlewald?

Hi everyone! Nice to see the numbers growing.

This is sort of a follow on question/ conundrum concerning Dumbledore and Grindlewald.

How did Dumbledore defeat Grindlewald (who had the elder wand which supposedly makes you unbeatable in a duel) and take the Elder Wand without actually killing Grindlewald? Does this make sense? Was this a slip up of JKR's or simply evidence that Dumbledore was super-intelligent (as well as kickass and super-cool :D)? Or is there another story behind Grindlewald's defeat that we haven't been told?

Happy debating!

my thoughts & questions on dh

I finished writing up a lengthy review with some questions here and there. Hope you guys read it.

How did everyone do with their theories by the way?

What do you think of Dumbledore now?

First of all, welcome, all new members!

Ok, since I'm currently re-reading Deathly Hallows I'll probably put up questions relating to the story as I get further in. To start us off I thought we'd get into a bit of a juicy one that I thought of whilest reading Chapter 2.

Question:

After learning much more about the past of Albus Dumbledore and learning of his mistakes, does this make you respect him more or less? Is Dumbledore a puppetmaster or just an old man trying to set things right? Who was more accurate- Elphias Doge or Rita Skeeter? What do you think of Dumbledore now?

*waves* I followed the link through the H/G community and thought we could start off here with a favorite quotes discussion.

Even though this is a Deathly Hallows discussion community, I'll put mine behind a cut, just incase people are reading flists and such =]

My quote comes from page 75, where's yours from?Collapse )
Hello! This is the first post in what I hope will be an interesting comm. I'm a regular listener of Mugglecast and Pottercast and listening to them gives me so many ideas (I usually disagree with them actually) that I thought it'd be nice to have some form of outlet for them. I'm such a big geek my family can't deal with me randomly talking at them about Teddy Lupin's changing hair anymore. If nothing else, this should preserve their sanity.

So questions and discussions about the new Harry Potter book! I was thinking I could post up a question every few days and members can post questions too and we can get to debating over and discussing them. I'm going to cross-post a link to this comm now and I'll post up the first question later on today.

By the way, you'll have to bear with me as this is the first comm that I've created so I might be a bit clueless about some things but I hope my enthusiasm makes up for it!!
